PNG, H-F swimmers rack up gold medals in districts

Port Neches-Groves and Hamshire-Fannett combined for eight first-place finishes Saturday in the District 23-5A swim meet at the Beaumont ISD natatorium.

Thomas Reinholt of PNG earned three gold medals. He won the 100-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle and helped the 200-yard medley finish first. Jake Plante, Jacob Smith and Nathan Clark also swam legs on the 200-yard medley.

Catherine Reinholt won the other two gold medals for PNG. She won a close 50-yard freestyle race with Hamshire-Fannett’s Karrenton Fillyaw (29.27 seconds to 29.56), while Lynsea Carre’ of Nederland came in third at 30.13. Reinholt also won the 100 freestyle in 1 minute, 4.49 seconds, beating second-place Fillyaw by 4.39.

H-F’s Briana Cardenas won titles in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.21) and 100-yard backstroke (1:03.82). She was more than 23 seconds faster than the runner-up in the butterfly and nearly 17 seconds ahead in the backstroke.

Kade Marcantel had the other gold for H-F, winning the 100 butterfly in 1:05.63.

Carre’ came in second in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:47.78. Teammate Jessica Watkins was third.

Qualifiers advance to the 5A Region VI meet Feb. 1-2 at Magnolia.
