Lamar is predicted to finish ninth in the Southland Conference preseason softball poll.
The Cardinals are coming off a tumultuous 28-28 season that included an 11-16 record in Southland play. Former University of Texas assistant Amy Hooks was hired as head coach in June, and she’ll have 12 returning players from last season’s team, five of whom were starters.
The predicted order of finish is defending champion Nicholls State, which had 18 first-place votes, McNeese State (6), Central Arkansas, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Northwestern State, Sam Houston State, Abilene Christian, Lamar, Incarnate Word, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist.
