Laura A. Burns

Laura A Burns, 78, of Port Arthur, TX passed away peacefully at home, on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. She was born on March 17, 1940 to the late Carroll and Orelia (Jack) Jacko in Charenton, LA. She was the second girl child of five children.
Laura was educated in Port Arthur. She was a graduate of the Class of 1958 from Abraham Lincoln High School where she played basketball and ran track for Arreader P. Guidry. After graduating she attended Tuskegee University before marrying James Burns.
After marrying James Burns September 23, 1961, three children were born to that union that were raised in the US and abroad due to James giving the USAF almost 27 years of service. She was a faithful wife and caregiver for her children.
Laura Burns was baptized and joined Eastern Star Baptist Church many years ago and was a Sunday School Teacher of the Adult II class. She also taught Children’s hour, which most of the adults enjoyed just as much as the children. She was a very faithful member of Eastern Star Baptist Church, until her health began to fail.
Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Orelia Jacko; her husband, James Burns; sister, Geraldine Mitchell, and two brothers, Roland and Harold Jacko. She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Lisa Hall (William), James A. Burns, and Emmy Burns; three grandchildren Marlysse, William Jr, and Michael Hall; baby brother Henry Jacko, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2019, 11:00am at Eastern Star Baptist Church, with Rev. Lloyd W. Scott, Sr. officiating, with a visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
