GROVES — The findings of a drainage study on West Jefferson will be made public during an upcoming meeting of the Groves City Council.
The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 3947 Lincoln Ave., Groves.
The report from the city engineer stems from the historic flooding from Tropical Storm Harvey.
Groves City Manager D. Sosa said Harvey was unusual. Massive amounts of rain fell but when it comes right down to it the ditches and culverts can only move so much water at a time. The study, he said, should show how to move water faster and more efficiently.
The study was completed about two weeks ago.
The engineering report of the culvert-and-ditch analysis at West Jefferson Street alley between Lawndale Avenue and Bellaire Avenue gives details on the width and length of the pipe as well as the slope and shows a dropped joint in the lower reach of the pipe entering a specific concrete line ditch that reduces the flow somewhat.
Action Civic Engineers, according to the report, believes that correcting the dropped joint to the original alignment will restore the pipe to full capacity.
The engineering firm also study another troublesome area — McKinley Avenue and Martha Lane. Recommendations include upsizing specific culverts among other recommendations.
