Memorial has waited seven seasons for another district championship in girls basketball.

Denisha Anderson and Julia Sion didn’t have another season to wait.

The seniors combined for 27 points Tuesday and helped the Lady Titans clinch at least a share of the District 21-5A championship with a 44-39 win at Dayton.

Memorial (17-10, 11-1 in 21-5A) was awaiting the result of Barbers Hill’s game against Cleveland on Tuesday. A Cleveland win would give the Lady Titans the outright district title, but a Barbers Hill win would likely mean a one-game playoff to determine the No. 1 seed.

Anderson had 14 points and four rebounds. She went 2 for 2 from three-point range.

Sion finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She made 5 of 7 shots from the floor.

As a team, Memorial struggled from the field, making only 12 of 33, including 3 of 12 from the perimeter. The Lady Titans made just 11 of 27 free throws.

Dayton hit 14 of 23 free throws.
