PGA TOUR: Stroud falls into tie for 45th

Midway through his second round in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Chris Stroud had rolled in three birdies, climbed into a tie for 10th at six under and looked prepared to take full advantage of Monterey Peninsula Country Club — the easiest of the tournament’s three courses.
By day’s end, however, the Port Neches-Groves ex was back to minus-3 and had tumbled to a tie for 45th with an even-par 71 for 140. Instead of being in contention Saturday, he will be fighting to make the 54-hole cut on the toughest course at Pebble Beach — Spyglass Hill.
The cut is expected to be minus-2.
When play was suspended at mid afternoon Friday, Stroud was seven shots back of five players tied for the lead at minus 10.
Included in that group were Phil Mickelson, Lucas Glover, Steve Langley, Paul Casey and Jordan Spieth, with Spieth having two holes left.
Stroud, who enjoyed the best of weather conditions that deteriorated as the day went along, saw his round start to unravel on his 12th hole. He made double bogey on the par 3, then added a bogey on his 17th hole, a par 4.
It was a far cry from his opening nine, as he buried birdies on No. 10, No. 16 and No. 17.
Among the highlights of the day was the play of CBS analyst and former Cowboys QB Tony Romo. Playing as Jim Furyk’s amateur partner, Romo had four birdies on the back nine at Pebble Beach.
Cold, rainy weather is again expected to be a factor on Saturday. Golf Channel coverage begins at noon, with the telecast moving to CBS (KFDM-6) at 2 p.m.
