Antonio “Poppy” Galvan, Sr.

Antonio “Poppy” Galvan Sr., 87, of Port Arthur passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and dear friends.
Antonio was born on January 1, 1932 to the union of Jose Maria and Felicitas Galvan. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated in 1950. He went on to serve his country in the Army Reserve, Army National Guard and United State Air Force, until he married the love of his life, Mary L. Benavides. He was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where he served as an usher for many years until his health declined. He was an auto painter and repairman for many years at Roland Angelle’s Pontiac. Antonio was a loving person who will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 46 years, Mary L Galvan, son in law, Miguel Ortiz, his brothers, Joe, Edward, Manuel and his sisters, Juanita, Ernestine.
Antonio is survived by his sons Antonio Galvan Jr., Vincent Galvan (Shannon), his daughters, Phyllis Babineaux (Joseph), Lucia Ortiz, Dianna Garza (Pete), Renee’ Thomas (Steven), Jo Ellen Galvan, sisters, Mary Ortiz and Socorro Guerrero. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, his beloved pet “Prince” and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 5 PM until 9 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. A 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
