The University Interscholastic League and National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) named Kenneth Coleman its 2018 boys basketball coach of the year for the entire state of Texas.
Coleman, a Port Arthur native now coaching Summer Creek in the Humble ISD, led Memorial to its first team athletic state championship last March with a 5A championship victory over Justin Northwest. The Titans finished 34-5 and won 26 straight games to finish the season.
Coleman, a Lincoln High graduate, spent three seasons as Memorial’s head coach before leaving last spring for Summer Creek, where his Bulldogs recently went unbeaten in District 22-6A. Summer Creek (25-6) will play Deer Park in the 6A bi-district round on Tuesday.
Coleman will be recognized during at halftime of a UIL state tournament game in San Antonio on March 8.
