Staff Report
A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Jhensen Morales Pacheco for aggravated robbery Wednesday.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Pacheco used a semi-automatic handgun to rob a gas station on Highway 73 in Winnie on March 18. Witnesses and surveillance video saw Pacheco get into a white Hyundai Elantra with a missing bumper and green Philpott sticker.
After Crime Stoppers aired a picture of the suspect and vehicle, a citizen spotted the vehicle and a female driver outside of Central Middle School in Nederland and called police. After reviewing surveillance footage, police were able to determine the driver was Sylkia Mendez.
The police caught up with Mendez at her friend’s home with the car used in the robbery outside. According to the affidavit, Mendez said the car belonged to her boyfriend Pacheco. Mendez identified a picture of Pacheco and said he was the one in the photo taken from the gas station robbery.
Police searched Pacheco’s address shown on a paystub found in the car with no success.
Law enforcement later caught up with Pacheco in Pasadena after the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for his arrest.
