All three teams with players who have ties to Southeast Texas were in good shape heading into the weekend in the weather impacted Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

With numerous players having to return Saturday morning to complete their second round, the team of Chris Stroud-Jason Kokrak and the duo of Shawn Stefani-Bill Haas were tied for ninth at 10-under-par. Andrew Landry and his partner, Austin Cook, were T20 at nine under.

The team of Peter Malnati-Billy Hurley was leading at 14-under when darkness stopped play Friday evening. Two other teams were at 13-under and there were a handful of other duos with several holes remaining who were in position to take the lead.

Thunderstorms that hit New Orleans hard on Thursday forced the Stroud, Stefani and Landry teams to go 36 holes on Friday. Playing a best-ball format in the first round, all three shot seven-under-par 65. In the alternate-shot second round, the Stroud and Stefani teams posted 69, while Landry-Cook carded a 70.

Stroud-Kokrak made a run at the lead on their first nine holes of alternate shot, shooting a 32 that featured three consecutive birdies. They were tied for second, two strokes off the lead, but slipped back with bogeys on their 14th and 18th holes.

The format goes back to best ball for today’s third round, then it will be alternate shot again on Sunday. Golf Channel coverage is set for noon Saturday, with NBC (KJAC-12.2) taking over at 2 p.m.
