Ayton, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, helped his partner Port Arthur Police Officer Greg Mouton with a traffic stop that led to the arrest of a man for possession of marijuana recently.
The K9 has been with PAPD for 10 months and is certified in narcotics detection and tracking and suspect apprehension, PAPD Det. Mike Hebert said. The K9 Officer Mouton, a 16-year veteran of the police force, is working patrol and is also a member of the SWAT team.
Mouton had stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on April 30 in the 2700 block of FM 365 but the driver would not cooperate with him and reportedly refused to present his driver’s license. So Ayton went to work and hit on a spot on the rear passenger side of the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed 17 ounces of marijuana in a heat-sealed baggie.
Police did not release the name of the man arrested.
