Jefferson County sustained 6-9 inches of rain overnight, the National Weather Service in Lake Charles said. Rainfall amounts of 4-5 inches were recorded for Port Arthur.
Was there a tornado in Mid County? NWS says maybe. Winds up to 60 mph at 1:05 a.m. were observed at the Jack Brooks Airport.
“That’s a good looking signature on the radar,” NWS forecaster Mike Marcotte said when asked about the winds. It might have been straight line winds, he said.
The forecast from NWS is a 70% chance of thunderstorms starting at mid afternoon and continuing until Saturday.
