The Storm Prediction Center has increased the threat for strong-to-severe storms today across the Southeast Texas region. Large hail, damaging winds, and even an isolated tornado are all possible, the National Weather Service in Lake Charles is reporting.
The timing of this bad weather is late morning through the early evening hours, the NWS said. Storms will start south along and south of the Interstate 10 corridor and work their way inland through the day.
As much as 2 to 3 inches of rain is expected, with locally higher amounts of 6 to 8 inches possible. Expect to see street flooding during periods of heavy rain.
Area rivers were in minor to moderate flooding. Additional rains could push some rivers into major flood status in the next few days.
Finally, tides were running above normal. During high tides, expect to see minor coastal flooding.
