WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Lamar’s Kinard signs with Italian team

BEAUMONT — Former Lamar women’s basketball player Moe Kinard has signed a professional contract to play for Pallacanestro Torino in Italy next season. Pallacanestro Torino plays in the Serie A1 League in Italy.

“I am happy to be continuing my basketball career with Pallacanestro Torino,” Kinard remarked. “This has been a dream of mine to play professionally since I was a little kid. Thank you to everyone who has helped me achieve my goal.”

Kinard earned her second straight All-Southland Conference first-team honors this season. Kinard finished the regular season as the Southland scoring leader as she averaged 21.6 points per game. She set the NCAA single game three-point record when she hit 13 threes at Denver on Nov. 23. In that game, Kinard set the single game scoring record for LU and the Southland Conference with 58 points, the most scored in an NCAA game this season.

Kinard, a native of New Iberia, Louisiana, appeared in all 31 games for the Cardinals this season. She led the Cards in scoring averaging 21.6 points per game. She shot a career-best 45.8 percent from the floor and 34.4 percent on three pointers this season. She made a career-high 94 threes. Against Incarnate Word on Feb. 20, Kinard broke the LU school record for most three pointers made in a career with 218. Besides scoring, Kinard recorded 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 1.5 assists per game during the 2018-19 season.

Over her three-year career at Lamar, Kinard appeared in 89 games for the Red and White. She averaged 17.7 points per game and hit an LU school record 230 three-pointers. For her career at LU, Kinard scored the third most points with 1,576. She shot 42.7 percent from the floor and hit 33.2 percent of her three-pointers.
