Jefferson County has experienced catastrophic rainfall over the last 8-9 hours creating torrential flooding in rural areas of the county.
Many of the roadways are flooded and are not passable with a passenger vehicle, so please stay off the roads and move to higher places within your home.
We urge citizens to stay off the roads and shelter in place. Emergency personnel are prioritizing calls and responding to emergency as quickly and as safely as possible.
Jefferson County has opened two shelters in West Jefferson County at Grace Community Church in LaBelle and 1st Baptist Church in Hamshire.
