A Jefferson County grand jury on Wednesday indicted Demonte Rashad Thomas, 22, of Port Arthur for shooting another man outside Tiger Mart on Sept. 16.
According to the indictment, the victim, 21, and his girlfriend had pulled into the parking lot of the store, 8149 Ninth Avenue, just after 1:30 p.m. and the victim went inside and the female stayed in the vehicle.
While in the store, the girlfriend’s brother, Thomas, went to the car and yelled at her to get out.
The victim heard the commotion and came outside and tried to separate the two, authorities said, when Thomas reportedly fired one round hitting the victim in the stomach.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment.
Thomas was located inside the store waiting for police. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
