PA council calls special meeting for Tuesday

The possibility of postponing Port Arthur city and school district elections will be discussed in a special meeting of the city council at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The elections are presently scheduled for May 2 but could be pushed back as a response to the coronavirus epidemic.

The council on Tuesday announced the cancellation of Sabine Pass Independent School District and Sabine Pass Port Authority elections because none of the candidates had an opponent.

On Friday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott postponed the primary runoff for county, district and state offices from May 26 to July 14. Early voting for the runoff will begin July 6.
