Dear Editor,
Today, June 19, is important because slaves in Texas received notice that President Lincoln had declared their freedom!
A few years later, Gen. Robert E. Lee declared his own ‘emancipation’ by stating that he wanted “no monuments or plaques in any form … using his name … to promote or perpetuate the glory of the Civil War!
If he were alive today, would he have to fight those who proclaim “loyalty” to the Confederacy as their heritage?
