At approximately 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Jefferson County.
The crash occurred near Taylors Bayou and involved a commercial motor vehicle.
The preliminary DPS crash investigation indicates that a 2014 commercial motor vehicle and a 2015 Nissan passenger vehicle were traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 followed by a 2013 Chevrolet pickup truck.
The driver of the Chevrolet failed to control his speed and rear-ended both the Nissan and commercial motor vehicle.
The impact of the collision caused the Chevrolet to be pinned under the trailer portion of the 18-wheeler, entrapping several occupants.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 23-year-old Conner Bray of Mississippi, and a 5-year-old child were taken by medical helicopter to Hermann Memorial hospital with serious injuries.
The other two passengers in the Chevrolet, 23-year-old Hannah Bray and an 11-month-old child, were taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital for treatment.
Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
The driver of the Nissan, 59-year-old Kymblyn Alexander of Westlake, Louisiana, was not injured in the crash.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, 48-year-old Alberto Lopez of Dilley, Texas, did not sustain any injuries.
All eastbound traffic lanes of I-10 were closed for approximately four hours, but have since reopened.
All information is preliminary as Troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this crash.
