CHEEK — Kidd Grocery on Kidd Road in Cheek was robbed at gunpoint Thursday night, authorities said.
The clerk advised that a male armed with a pistol came into the store at approximately 11 p.m. and demanded money. The clerk complied.
The gunman was wearing a wig, fake glasses, a dark hoodie, dark jeans, a black shoe and a white shoe.
As soon as the robber left the store, the clerk called 911.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was nearby on Boyt Road. The deputy saw a lone vehicle traveling on Kidd Road.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and detained the driver and lone occupant.
The deputy observed a black shoe and a white shoe in the backseat area matching the description of what the robber was wearing.
“Citizens in this normally quiet neighborhood began calling JCSO Dispatch reporting that a black male was knocking on multiple doors,” according to the Sheriff’s Office. “Deputies quickly located that subject, as well as a large wad of cash.”
Police said the suspect’s wig, glasses, shoes and hoodie were later located in the general area.
“Investigation revealed that the driver of the suspect vehicle was the getaway driver,” a JCSO release stated. “He was identified as 27-year-old Cody Wilson of Beaumont.”
The second suspect, 21-year-old Johnaton Hite of Beaumont is the suspect who robbed the store at gunpoint, police said.
Wilson and Hite gave full confessions, according to police.
“Detectives are still in the area searching for the AR15 style pistol used in the aggravated robbery,” the release stated. “Both Wilson and Hite were charged with aggravated robbery. This was great teamwork by JCSO dispatch, patrol and the detective division.”
