PORT NECHES — A 25-year-old Port Neches man suffered a fractured leg and possibly other injuries after a vehicle left the roadway and struck him in his yard, authorities said.
Port Neches Police Chief Cheri Griffith said the man is listed in stable condition after being struck while taking his garbage out.
The collision occurred just after 6 p.m. Sunday on Earle Street, according to police.
A vehicle was reportedly traveling eastbound on Earle and veered over in the westbound lane while driving partly on the road, then crossed over into the yard and hit the man taking out the garbage and left the scene, Griffith said.
The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Police do not believe the vehicle was traveling at speeds of 80 mph, as social media posts indicated, due to evidence at the scene.
The case is under investigation and police are following leads, though the driver has not been identified as of Monday afternoon.
