The Mexican Heritage Society of Port Arthur recently honored four high school seniors with $700 scholarships each to pursue future endeavors.
“We had 12 excellent applicants that submitted both an application and also had an in-person interview,” said Zulema Escobedo, Society president. “This was made possible with a donation from our organization and the Greater Houston Community Foundation in memory of Fernando Ramirez.”
Mindy Escobedo was the guest speaker for the event.
Mindy has worked at the Texas Capitol, graduated from Lamar University and won the prestigious Martin Luther King community award. She is a leading lady recipient, a Cardinal Ambassador and prior president of the Zeta organization, amongst other awards. She also owns of an insurance agency.
Mindo Escobedo spoke about how everyone’s lives come with bumps in the road, but the world belongs to those who see those bumps as an opportunity to grow.
The four recipients include Arlene Hernandez, Valentin Chavez, Horacio Garcia and Alyssa Garsea.
“We are very proud of the recipients and know that they will serve the community well,” Zulema Escobedo said.
