BERYL: School districts, LSCPA, LU, LIT close for storm

School districts across Port Arthur and Mid County are closed Monday due to Tropical Storm Beryl.
- Port Arthur ISD
All student activities, athletic practices and summer recreation programs will be closed Monday and will reopen Tuesday at regular time.
- Port Neches-Groves ISD
All district-wide student activities scheduled for Monday are CANCELED. This includes team workouts and spirit practices.
Should the need rise to further cancel activities for Tuesday, we will do so by Noon Monday.
Monday will remain a district workday for employees.
- Nederland ISD
Nederland ISD is canceling all student activities for Monday.
As always, the safety of our faculty, students, and staff is our top priority, stay safe.
- Lamar State College Port Arthur
Due to the danger of storm surge resulting from Hurricane Beryl, the Port Arthur campus of Lamar State College Port Arthur will close on Monday, July 8, 2024. The closure also affects the CDL Training & Testing Center located near Nederland.
The National Weather Service issued a STORM SURGE WARNING Sunday, July 7, for the region, prompting the closure of the Port Arthur campus and CDL Center.
The campus is expected to resume regular operations on Tuesday, July 8.
- Lamar University
Out of an abundance of caution due to the forecasted weather conditions, the Lamar Institute of Technology campus will be closed Monday, July 8, 2024. This includes all face to face, hybrid, and online classes. Ensure your safety by heeding the advice: “Turn around, don’t drown,” especially when encountering flooded roadways.
