Indictment: Parking lot fight leads to shooting

A fight between two men outside a convenience store in June led to a female being shot and to the recent indictment of one of the alleged combatants.

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Tavionte Fontenot, 18, of Port Arthur in connection with the June 16 shooting that happened in the parking lot of BJ’s Store, 1201 7th St.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a fight broke out between two men the store parking lot at about 3 a.m. One of the men, identified as Fontenot, reportedly began shooting. He allegedly pointed the gun at the woman’s vehicle and began firing while she was in the driver’s seat, striking her in the arm.

Fontenot is currently in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on a charge of prohibited weapon following an Aug. 1 arrest.
