A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a Brownsville man on two counts of intoxication manslaughter in connection with the crash that killed two women in June.

Salvador Ramos Gamez was traveling south in the northbound lane of U.S. 69 near mile marker 534 when he struck another vehicle head-on, killing the occupants on June 14. The crash caused both vehicles to erupt into flames. The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the case.

The deceased were identified as Camille Marti, 21, of Beaumont, and Loren (Icenhower) Stacks, 25, of Beaumont.

The two women were friends and attended the same church, according to previous reporting. Stacks had recently married husband Chris Stacks and Marti had recently gotten engaged to fiancé Boston Carr.
While at the hospital for his injuries, Gamez reportedly told authorities he had been drinking alcohol and the officer noticed signs of intoxication, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Gamez was arrested and bond set at $500,000 for each charge. He remains in the county jail, according to information from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
