E’Lane Young Brown, age 89, peacefully passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, in New Braunfels, Texas.
E’Lane was born Dec. 1,1934, and was raised in Hearne, Texas. After graduating from Hearne High School in 1952, she attended Baylor University and received her BS in Speech Therapy from Texas State College for Women, now Texas Woman’s University. E’Lane moved to Port Arthur in 1956 and began her career as a speech therapist with the Port Arthur School District. In 1958, she and her husband, Howell R. Brown, were married and remained together for 63 years until his passing in 2021.
E’Lane was an active member of the Proctor Street Church of Christ and the First Christian Church of Port Arthur. She also belonged to the Tyrrell Elementary School PTA, the Port ArthurTrivium club, the Association of Texas Professional Educators, and the Capt. William Sanders Chapter of the DAR.
E’Lane was preceded in death by her father, Houston Austin Young; her mother Edith Lane Young; and her husband Howell Raby Brown.
She is survived by her children, Lawrence Austin Brown; Alice Harrell and her husband William; two grandsons, Jack and Tyler; her brother, Jerry Young and his wife Joyce; and her first cousin Bob Allen and his wife Linda.
Additionally, E’Lane had numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved deeply.
Visitation was held at the First Christian Church of Port Arthur on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. followed by E’Lane’s funeral service at 12 noon. Interment was at Greenlawn Cemetery immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Port Arthur, 5856 9th Ave., Port Arthur, Texas 77642; or the charity of your choice.
