A Port Arthur man has been sentenced for a federal firearms violation in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs today.

Eren Jacory Wilson, 23, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia Crone on August 15, 2024.

According to information presented in court, on April 14, 2023, Port Arthur Police attempted to stop Wilson for traffic violations.  Wilson then led officers on a chase that ended when Wilson jumped from his moving car which careened into a residential fence.  After a brief search of the area, officers found Wilson hiding inside a nearby garage.  When the officers searched Wilson’s car they found an AR-15 style pistol, a large-capacity magazine, and a small amount of marihuana.  Further investigation revealed that Wilson was a convicted felon having been convicted in 2022 of possessing stolen property in Louisiana.  Under federal law, convicted felons are prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.

This case was investigated by the Port Arthur Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John B. Ross.
