Election filing ends, Groves to see multiple races

Voters in Groves will have a busy ballot in the coming months with four contested races.
The races include that of the Mayor, City Marshal, Ward 2 and Ward 4 councilmembers.
Mayor
Mayor Chris Borne, 45, has filed for reelection. He has an opponent, Michael Boudreaux, 49.
Borne lists his occupation as an electrician and Boudreaux lists his occupation as a plant mechanic.
City Marshal
Interim City Marshal (Sergeant) Christopher Robin, 37, filed for the position. Patrol Supervisor Rudy Guerrero, 47, has also filed for the seat.
The City Marshal’s seat was vacated with the retirement of longtime lawman Norman Reynolds Jr. at the beginning of the year.
Ward 2
Ward 2 incumbent Paul Oliver, 66, a business owner, drew two opponents; Tanner Thompson, 30, a police officer, and Brandon Holmes, 39, a marine inspector.
Ward 4
Ward 4 incumbent Rhonda Dugas, 70, also drew two opponents; Rae Shauna Gay, 36, a business owner, and Kyle Hollier, 73, a photographer.
Dugas beat Hollier for the Ward 4 seat in 2020 and was reelected in 2022 after facing him a second time.
All four of the seats up for election are for two-year terms.
Filing for local elections ended at 5 p.m. Monday for seats on Groves City Council, Port Neches City Council and Port Neches-Groves Independent School District Board of Trustees.
In the city of Port Neches, two seats are up for election. The mayor’s seat, held by Glenn Johnson, and the Place 4 seat held by Robert Arnold.
Neither incumbent drew an opponent.
For PNGISD Board of Trustees race there were three seats up for election; the Place 1 seat held by Dr. Scott Bartlett, Place 2 seat held by Dustin Marsh and Place 3 seat held by Eric Sullivan.
Neither Bartlett, Marsh or Sullivan drew an opponent.
Important dates
Filing is open until Aug. 19.
Early voting is from Oct. 21 to Nov. 1 and Election Day is Nov. 5.
