VFW Post 4820 and Auxiliary will host a membership drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 7 at Walmart, 8585 Memorial Blvd.
The organization will be giving out free hotdogs to veterans and will accept donations for their different charities such as Veterans and Military Service and Buddy Poppy Drives.
The VFW Post Auxiliary will have popcorn and homemade goods for sale to generate funds for several of their projects. There will be military and patriotic music. This group is a fast-growing post with an active presence in the community, leaders said.
“We have gone from 190 something members to over 227 in three years. In the last three years our membership has increased by 15 percent while our service to the community has increased by 48 percent,” M. DeAnn Soderholm, VFW Auxiliary President, said. “This VFW post was instrumental in setting up a Cootie Pup tent, an Honor Degree of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States for the local community, one of only 10 in the state. Located in Beaumont, the Cooties go into hospitals and assisted living facilities to visit veterans. We donate blood and coordinate blood drives, as well as doing Warrior checks on Veterans. We are the real deal. And we take donations.”
Those wanting to be part of an organization that is working to give back to Veterans are asked to visit the event, she said.
The Auxiliary will also be recruiting for new members, requirements for membership is you have to be an immediate family member of a veteran who has served in a foreign war such as a father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, or grandchild.
