Officials with Port Arthur Independent School District on Wednesday alerted parents of Thomas Jefferson Middle School students of alleged online and verbal threats against the school.

The district released information via social media saying a thorough investigation by the PAISD Police Department showed the reported threats were deemed not credible.

The threats are believed to be an online hoax by a ”social media influencer” attempting to build a following among teens at schools in neighboring districts that have also recently received similar alleged threats.

“We will continue to monitor various social media sites and also maintain a heavy law enforcement presence at all PAISD campuses,” according to information from the district. “Remember, PAISD sends out communications once we have verified the accuracy of the reports we receive so that parents are provided facts.”
