Jan. 2 Law Enforcement Personnel from Newton County, Texas were actively searching for 2 lost children and a dog that had wandered off into a wooded area.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. the Newton County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office(JCSO) and requested assistance in the search by utilizing the JCSO helicopter with the Flir camera.  JCSO Pilots Barbour and Howell responded to the area by air and began to assist in the search for the lost children.
Around 2:00 a.m., JCSO Pilots using night vision goggles to fly, observed an image in the heat signature on the Flir camera that they believed could be the children and their dog that had followed along with them. Pilots focused on the location with the searchlight, hovered over them and guided ground personnel to the location where the children and the dog were recovered.
