Quick action of a local wrecker driver likely kept damage from a car fire from spreading to a nearby daycare Thursday.
Allen Valka of Opie’s Towing and Transport lives on Memorial Boulevard and just happened to see a car on fire across the street at Safari Kidz Clubhouse in the 3500 block of Memorial.
Valka said he got in his tow truck, hooked up to the burning car and pulled it to a safe distance from the day care.
No one was inside the vehicle at the time of the fire.
Port Arthur Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze. Capt. Klint Pruitt said the call came in at 4:52 p.m. He explained that the driver had pulled up and left the car running while she went inside the building. The car soon caught fire.
No injuries were reported.
