The 39th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Brunch was held Monday at the Bob Bowers Civic Center where locals were honored for their contributions.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Support Group of Southeast Texas sponsors the event.
This year’s theme was Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365.
MLK Honorees include: Sheri Q. Barnes, Daniel Cruz, Judge Ransom “Duce” Jones, Angela Malveaux, Bobbie Patterson, Clay Roy, LaDonna Sherwood Hailey, and Ingrid West-Holmes.
The Madeline Kaye Savoy Excellence in Education Honorees includes Robert Reid and Laura Welch.
MLK Special Recognition Honorees include Dwight Fobbs, Frank Neal, Christopher Newman, Kristeen Reynolds and Brooklyn Williams.
Also receiving recognition was the Man of the Year Dr. Freddie Titus and Woman of the Year Dr. LaWanda Black-Finney.
The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Richard A. Johnson III.
He is a Houston native who is currently the director of Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Booker T. Washington initiative as well as longtime educator and Army veteran to name a few of his many accomplishments.
