GROVES — The City of Groves has unveiled its new logo, which will be used for the remaining year. The new logo features two pecans, honoring the city’s history with pecan orchards.
The current logo was designed by Charlie Marie Karr, a Groves resident and was instated in 1958. Despite the longevity of the logo, there are various versions of the logo currently in use in the city. The city cites its “dated and difficult” design as a reason to replace it.
“It’s inconsistent, that can be a problem, and this is a 67-year-old graphic, so it comes across as very dated,” City Manager Kevin Carruth said.
The logo was approved during the Jan. 27 City Council meeting where the design process was discussed and voted on. As the meeting is open to the public Councilmember Mark McAdams asked for any feedback during the meeting. The crowd seemed to like the new logo.
The updated logo comes as part of the process of redesigning the city website. Work began in November 2024 and involved staff from all departments to provide feedback.
The logo honors the city’s history with pecans along with the annual Pecan Festival in October, and the soon to be installed World’s Largest Pecan.
The design was chosen out of three different choices that the city was presented with.
The new logo will be slowly incorporated into the city’s vehicles and other places as things begin to be changed out or replaced.
