Port Arthur native and two-time Super Bowl champion Jimmy Johnson announced his retirement from Fox Sports broadcasting after 31 years with the station.
Johnson made the announcement Monday on the “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
“But I’ve made an extremely difficult decision,” Johnson said. “I’ve been thinking about it for the last four or five years and I’ve decided to retire from Fox. I’m going to miss it. I’m going to miss all the guys. I’ll see them occasionally. It’s been a great run starting 31 years ago.”
Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame in 2012 and the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2019.
Johnson attended Thomas Jefferson High School, now Memorial High School in Port Arthur, before going on to play football at the University of Arkansas. Johnson would go undrafted and begin his career coaching at Louisiana Tech University in 1965. Johnson would eventually find his way to the head coach position at the Dallas Cowboys after winning a national championship with the University of Miami.
Johnson was recently a part of the Super Bowl pregame coverage in February. This marks the end of Johnson’s historic decades long career in football and television.
