PNG girls win district title; PNG boys win 4th in 19-5A golf tournament

The results are in for the District 19-5A boys and girls golf tournaments, with teams and individuals now preparing to advance to regional competition.
Boys Golf
Mount Belvieu Barbers Hill’s No. 1 and No. 2 teams claimed the top two spots in the boys division and will advance to the regional tournament. Nederland secured a third-place finish, while Port Neches-Groves came in fourth, narrowly missing the cut to advance as a team.
Individually, sophomore Foster Cecka earned a fifth-place finish and will move on to regionals. This will mark Cecka’s second appearance at the regional level. Baytown Sterling junior Radley Dizon will also compete at regionals as an individual qualifier.
The boys’ regional tournament is scheduled for April 17–18 at The Golf Club at Margaritaville Lake Resort in Montgomery.
Girls Golf
The PNG girls golf team emerged as district champions following tournament play on Tuesday and Wednesday at Eagle Pointe in Baytown and Chambers County Golf Club in Anahuac.
PNG senior Tatum Bean of Groves led the way, capturing the individual district title with rounds of 84 and 81, winning by an 11-stroke margin. Fellow senior and Groves native Ava Borne followed closely, finishing second with rounds of 87 and 89. Barbers Hill’s Kambre Orlando placed third overall, while PNG freshman Maggie Stutz, also of Groves, secured fifth place.
The PNG girls team led Barbers Hill by seven strokes after the first round and extended their lead to 18 strokes by the tournament’s conclusion. The team includes seniors Tatum Bean, Ava Borne, Abby Jaquez, Mary Jordan, and freshman Maggie Stutz. They are coached by Barbara Comeaux.
The PNG girls will advance to the regional tournament, which will be held April 15–16 at Margaritaville Golf Course in Conroe.
