A multi-state manhunt ended with the arrest of a Mississippi man in Port Arthur on Monday.

Chanetta Stevens with Meridian Police Department of Mississippi said Ryan Young was captured in Port Arthur.

He was on the loose after escaping from the Mississippi Department of Corrections on Wednesday.

Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso said Young was tracked to the city and arrested at approximately 11:30 a.m. Monday at Icebox in the 6700 block of West Port Arthur Road.

Young reportedly did not have ties to Port Arthur and had been catching rides and ended up in the city. He was taken into custody without incident, Duriso said.

The next step is for an extradition hearing, according to Duriso.

A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office official confirmed Monday afternoon that Young was in custody in Jefferson County.

The manhunt involved the cooperation of several agencies, including the Meridian Police Department’s Special Operations Unit, and Young was located after fleeing from Louisiana to Texas early Monday, Stevens said in a news release on the department’s Facebook page.

Young was serving a 40-year sentence for vehicle and residential burglaries, grand larceny and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Clairborne County, Mississippi.

He reportedly escaped after being taken to Meridian for a court hearing, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
