GUEST COLUMN — Sertoma Club disbands, says goodbye after 64 years

Port Arthur Evening Sertoma Club, one of three remaining area Sertoma clubs in South Jefferson County, calls it quits, stating loss of members and recruitment of new members as reasons.
Port Arthur Evening Sertoma Club held a farewell dinner at the Pompano Club in Port Neches Nov. 30, distributing its remaining cash assets, totaling $36,500, to local charities.
Earlier this year the club deeded property to the Museum of the Gulf Coast and donated their food trailer to Port Neches Police Auxiliary.
The master of ceremony Tim Romero introduced club members and special guests, including Dr Sam Monroe and Tom Neal of the Gulf Coast Museum; Mr. Glenn Johnson Port Neches mayor; Doris Hale of the Capland Center; Derek McWilliams and Kristen Placette of Orange Sabine Credit Union; and Alton Borel of the Port Arthur Noon Sertoma Club.
The program had a Festival Flair, as Tim Romero was assisted by Vice President Marjory Stafford and past President Mae Terro as they awarded checks to local Charities.
The Port Arthur Evening Club ends its 64 years of service to mankind with only 13 members representing over 400 years of service.
Club Treasurer Roy Yeaman presented a service award to club member Bob Brammer for his 47 years of service to the Port Arthur Evening Sertoma Club.
Christmas decorations were presented to attending guests, and the dinner was ended with a benediction by pastor Tim Dingler.
