Evon Vargas, 91, of Port Arthur passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Evon was born on July 28, 1932 in Wiergate, Texas to parents Eufrania (Lona) and Gabino Moreno Sr.
She was a lifelong resident of Southeast Texas and she was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Port Arthur.
Evon had worked at Mid-Jefferson Hospital as a nurse for several years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her husband, going fishing, working in the garden, traveling, going to the casino and she enjoyed crocheting.
Evon was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabino and Eufrania Moreno Sr., her husband, Thomas Vargas on December 27, 2023 and seven of her brothers and sisters.
Evon is survived by her daughters, Delia Embler and her husband, Douglas of Port Arthur, Theresa Collazo and her fiancé, Lynn Suire of Vidor and Linda Dionne and her husband, Thad of Orange. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Linda Collazo, Johnny Collazo Jr. and his wife, Annelise, Sean Dionne and fiancé, Evita Matson, Ryan Dionne, her great grandchildren, Rylen Mirabella, LaRae Stanley and her husband, Jordan, Dylan Collazo, Julianna Collazo, Jack Collazo, Camila Collazo and one great-great grandchild, Paisleigh Stanley. She is survived by her siblings, Pearl Lehman of Port Neches, Joe Moreno of Port Neches, Alice Ditzler of League City, Margaret Owens of League City, George Moreno of Kirbyville, Isabel Moreno of Groves and Dolores Liscano of Port Arthur.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Port Arthur.
Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
