Residents and motorists in Jefferson County and Orange County are experiencing widespread rainfall between two to five inches of as of 6 a.m. Monday.

“However, there are likely some localized spots up to six inches,” meteorologist Jeremy Michael said. “That is causing flash flooding all the across the area. We’re getting quite a few reports of flooded roadways and water in people’s yards. It is causing impact on the morning commute with people have to turn around because the water is too deep and rods flooded across the area.”

While some of the heaviest rain is through most of Orange County and the northern parts of Jefferson County, everywhere is the central and southern parts of Jefferson County are still seeing moderate to heavy rain as of 6 a.m. Monday.

“That is going to continue for the next few hours,” Michael said.

“The heaviest rain will be out in the next one to two hours but there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the entire day.”

Numerous local school districts in Port Arthur and Mid County have delayed school starts for Monday.

Port Arthur ISD, Port Neches-Groves ISD and Nederland ISD all delayed the start of school by an hour across campuses. The same is true for Bob Hope School campuses and Sabine Pass ISD.

Tekoa announced school would start at 9:10 a.m. Monday.

Classes on campus at Lamar State College Port Arthur are delayed until 10 a.m. Monday.
