JASPER — One suspect is dead and an officer injured following an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning in Jasper, police said.
Jasper Police Department Lt. Garrett Foster said the shooting occurred at approximately 5 a.m. in the 100 block of Parker Drive in Jasper.
“During the incident, a Jasper police officer was shot,” the release stated. “Fortunately, the officer was wearing a ballistic vest, which appears to have prevented the bullet from penetrating. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
“The suspect involved in this incident is deceased.”
Foster said it is standard procedure for the Texas Department of Public Safety Ranger Division to conduct its own investigation followed by an internal review of the Jasper Police Department.
Those investigations are underway, and “no further information will be released at this time,” according to Foster.
“We ask the community to keep the injured officer and the deceased family and friends in their thoughts and prayers during this time,” he said.
