JASPER — In making an announcement Thursday evening, the Jasper Police Department said it is “committed to keeping the public informed regarding the ongoing investigation into the officers-involved shooting while executing a search warrant that occurred” Tuesday.
A photograph has been released depicting the firearm that was in the possession of Elvin Dean Land at the time of the shooting, police announced.
“In addition to the firearm in Mr. Land’s possession, another firearm and approximately 422.9 grams (approximately 1/2 pound) of suspected cocaine were seized from the residence during the execution of the search warrant,” the release stated.
“The investigation is still ongoing, and we continue to work diligently to uncover all the facts surrounding this case.”
That follows a Tuesday evening report where police released the body-worn camera and in-car video footage of the officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday morning.
Police shooting
One suspect is dead and an officer injured following an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning in Jasper, police said.
Jasper Police Department Lt. Garrett Foster said the shooting occurred at approximately 5 a.m. in the 100 block of Parker Drive in Jasper.
“During the incident, a Jasper police officer was shot,” the release stated. “Fortunately, the officer was wearing a ballistic vest, which appears to have prevented the bullet from penetrating. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
“The suspect involved in this incident is deceased.”
The fatally shot victim is 67-year-old Elvin Dean Land.
Foster said it is standard procedure for the Texas Department of Public Safety Ranger Division to conduct its own investigation followed by an internal review of the Jasper Police Department.
