NEDERLAND — The addition of a few new school resource officers in Nederland Independent School District now fills all spots at district schools.
Nederland Police Department announced the new officers effective with the 2024-2025 school year on social media this week.
This year’s SRO’S include Adam Arceneaux, Langham Elementary School; Yubitza Estrada, Hillcrest Elementary School; Corey Mendoza, Nederland High School; Brad Lemoine, Helena Park Elementary; Tanner Thompson, Highland Park Elementary; Darren Washburn, Central Middle School; and Jeremy Reese, C.O. Wilson Middle School.
Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter said Helena and Highland Park schools did not have a SRO previously.
In addition the district also has four guardians employed.
Police anticipate there will be some traffic issues on the first day of school Thursday, especially with the opening of the new high school.
Porter asked the public to carry some patience with them.
“They need to try and be a little patient, it will work itself out in a couple of days,” Porter said.
