A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted 19-year-old Vonzelle Dominique Hall in connection with the fatal shooting of Jesus Garcia, 18.
The shooting took place in the early morning hours of Aug. 10 at Beverly Place Apartments, 5307 Gulfway Drive, Groves.
Groves police were dispatched to the apartments at approximately 1:57 a.m. and were told by dispatch that multiple people had left the scene and there was a male lying on the ground, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Garcia had at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was brought by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Surveillance and video reportedly showed several males standing in the parking lot and at least three of them were holding what appeared to be firearms.
One of the males with a gun, wearing a camouflage hoodie and cap on his head, was standing next to Garcia who was also armed with a firearm, the document read.
The males reportedly appeared to be friends and there was no arguments observed between them.
Garcia allegedly had a firearm in his waistband when the male in camo drew Garcia’s attention away then placed a gun to his head. Garcia attempted to duck and flee as the person in camo fired multiple shots at him. Garcia is seen collapsing in the parking lot a short distance away.
Detectives were able to locate additional surveillance video with more detailed video of the events, the document read.
Police posted a photo from the video on social media in an attempt to identify the alleged shooter and a person asking to remain anonymous called saying they believed the shooter to be Hall.
On Aug. 13 a relative of Hall gave a sworn statement on the identity of the alleged shooter. Hall turned himself in to authorities on Aug. 14.
Hall remains in the Jefferson County Corrections Facility on a $600,000 bond.
