A Port Arthur woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to two felony crimes in connection to the death of her disabled 3-year-old brother King Dewey.
Kirsten Alexia Louis, 24, made the plea in the 252nd District Court with Judge Raquel West presiding.
Louis was charged with two counts of injury to a child. According to her plea agreement she has waived the right to appeal.
West sentenced Louis to 30 years on each count to run concurrently meaning at the same time. She will receive credit for time in custody.
Louis’s brother, King Dewey, was born with Down Syndrome. The child’s mother, Tina Louis, had reportedly moved away and left the child in the care of her daughter and daughter’s boyfriend Jaylin Lewis at a Port Arthur home.
On May 31, 2022, 911 was called by Kirsten Louis and when first responders arrived at the home in the 300 block of Richmond Avenue they found a closet where Dewey had been locked away. He was found dead and was described as emaciated. His body weighed only 19 pounds.
Jaylin Lewis pleaded not guilty and his trial is being held in West’s court this week.
