July 4, 1964 – November 14, 2024

Susan Frances Dartez Plumlee, 60, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after her courageous battle with cancer. Born on Independence Day, July 4, 1964, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas, Susan brought warmth and light to everyone she met.

She grew up in Port Arthur and later in Garland, Texas, where she graduated from South Garland High School in 1983. Susan pursued her passion for helping others at Texas Woman’s University, studying Occupational Therapy.

On October 18, 1997, Susan married the love of her life, John E. Plumlee, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Together, they built a life rich with love, laughter, and cherished memories, raising their children in a home filled with joy and dedication.

Susan’s life was defined by her selflessness and creativity. She found immense joy in quilting, volunteering at her children’s schools, and supporting their Taekwondo pursuits. Her favorite pastime was traveling with her family, capturing every milestone, vacation, and celebration in pictures. Her meticulous organization of these memories—along with her unparalleled knack for keeping everything impeccably clean—became a beloved hallmark of her personality.

Susan’s legacy of love and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her husband, John Plumlee; her children, Jonathan E. Plumlee and Sarah E. Plumlee; her parents, David J. Dartez and Sue Terrell Dartez; mother-in-law, Mary Plumlee; stepbrother, David J. Dartez Jr., his wife Rebecca and their children Josie and Nate; brother-in-law Curtis L. Plumlee, his wife Kathryn and their children Rebecca and Chase Phillips, Caroline and Sean Trainer and MaryHannah Plumlee; grandnephews Phoenix Trainer, Colin Phillips and Cameron Phillips; cousin Renee Beal Woody and her sons John and David; and countless other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Solomon Terrell; grandmother, Grace Eyleen Terrell; father-in-law, Granvill “Buddy” Plumlee; uncle, William E. “Bill” Terrell; aunts, Patricia Sue Beal Terrell and Linda N. Terrell Fugate.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024, in Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, in Katy, Texas with Rev. C. McAllister “Mac” Vaughn officiating.
