Tiffany May’s classroom explodes in excitement as she dances around the room after being named Teacher of the Year.
Tyrell Elementary fourth grade teacher Tiffany May has earned recognition as Teacher of the Year, sponsored by Phillpott Motors.
“I feel grateful, I know I’m in the right place,” said May. “I was called to teach during Church so for me it’s just additional confirmation.”
May was also recognized earlier this year as Teacher of the Month for January, where she earned a $500 gift and a nomination for Teacher of the Year.
May has taught at Tyrrell for eight years and maintained perfect attendance for the past four years. She participates in after-school tutorials and activities to make a more positive impact on her student’s education.
“What the kids are doing here and you see them growing, they just give me the satisfaction that I need to know that I’m walking in my calling and walking in my purpose,” said May.
Her career began at Wheatley School of Early Childhood Programs in Port Arthur, a school she had a child attending. She eventually moved up to teaching first grade and eventually fourth grade where she is now.
May believes her connection and relation with students is what separates her from the other teachers up for the award.
She thanked her mom and everyone who supported her for the award.
