Filing begins for Port Arthur, Sabine Pass, Nederland seats

Filing for the May 3 general election begins today/Jan. 15 with seats on local school boards, city council, port commissioners and two mayoral spots.

The city of Port Arthur will hold an election for the purpose of electing a mayor. Current Mayor Thurman Bartie is finishing his second and final term.

Bartie held a petition drive in 2024 to change the city’s charter and extend the term limits thus allowing him another run at the position. The petition fell short on the number of certified signatures during the summer.

Former councilwoman Charlotte Moses announced her intent to run for the mayor’s spot in May 2024. She previously served from 2015 to 2023 when she reached her term limits.

Port Arthur Independent School District

Two seats are up on the PAISD School Board. They are for incumbents Kimberly Wycoff-Johnson and Jacori Narcisse.

Terms are for three years.

Applications may be picked up at the front desk of the administration building, 4801 9th Ave., from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 15.

The district is closed on Jan. 20.

 

Port of Port Arthur Board of Commissioners

Two seats are up on the Port of Port Arthur Board of Commissioners. The seats are currently held by Raymond Johnson and Randy Martin.

Terms are for six years.

Sabine Pass Independent School District

Three seats are up fro election o the Sabine Pass ISD Board of Trustees. They are currently held by Ethan Blood, Jennifer Blood and Nadine Williams.

Three seats are up for election on the Port of Sabine Pass Board of Commissioners. They are currently held by Ricky Keltz,, Becky Dolan and Suzette Chumley.

Three seats are up for election for the city of Nederland. They include seats held b Mayor Don Albanese, Ward 2 Councilwoman Sylvia Root and Ward 4 Councilman David Guillot. 

Terms are for three years.

Nederland Independent School District

Two seats are up for election on the Nederland Independent School District Board of Trustees. The seats are currently held by Suzanne Isom and Nicholas Phillips.

Important dates

Filing is open from Jan. 15 to Feb. 14.

The last day to register to vote in the May 3 election is April 3.

Early voting is from April 22 to April 29.

Election Day is May 3.
