Harvey Lee Walters, 85, of Port Acres, TX passed away peacefully on December 6, 2015, at Mid-Jefferson Extended Care Hospital in Nederland, TX. Harvey was born on April 9, 1930 in Port Arthur, TX to George and Matilda Walters. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948 and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army for two years.
Harvey retired in 1985 after working for A T & T /Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years. He served as the president of CWA Local 6139 for many years.
Harvey was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who took care of everyone. He valued family above all else and always put the needs of others before himself. He loved his four grandchildren and treasured the time he spent with them. He was truly a caring man and was loved by all who knew him. He lived life to the fullest, always on his own terms. His passing leaves a hole in our lives that will never be filled. He loved to travel, especially to the casinos and made many happy memories on his gambling excursions.
Harvey is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine McFarlin Walters. They were happily married for over 62 years. He is also survived by his son, Wade Walters and wife, Kathy of Port Acres, his daughter, Donna Greer and husband, Marty of LaBelle, four grandchildren, Ashley Arceneaux and husband, JC of Port Acres, Britany Peltier and husband, Joe of Bridge City, Shane Greer and wife Ana of Beaumont and Shana Greer of LaBelle and by his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Peltier. Additional survivors include numerous extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home, Nederland, TX. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at Melancon’s Funeral Home, Nederland, TX. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Numa Dale Richard, Cotton McFarlin, Donnie McFarlin, Ryan Richard, Clint McFarlin and Jared Walters.
