Former Port Arthur Memorial standout Jalen Barnes and two other football players are transferring from Texas Tech, the university announced Friday.

The university also announced the indefinite suspension of junior wide receiver Devin Lauderdale for what Tech said was “a failure to uphold Texas Tech Athletic Department Student-Athlete Expectations.”

Barnes, a 6-foot, 189-pound redshirt sophomore, chose the Red Raiders over Houston, Texas, Mississippi State and Louisiana-Lafayette, among other teams, according to his Tech bio.

Barnes recorded three tackles and broke up one pass in only five games this season. He set a career high of nine tackles against Iowa State last season.

Sophomore defensive lineman Mike Mitchell and sophomore D-back Derrick Dixon also are transferring from Texas Tech. The Red Raiders (7-5) will play LSU (8-3) in the Dec. 29 AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl in Houston.
